Excellent Sunday night out - first a nice meal with yummy Spanish food, then Andy Fairweather Low and the Low Riders at Frannz Club Prenzlauer Berg who went down a storm. Great to meet Uwe Koessler there! Photos not all sharp, but main thing we had a great time. The band obviously enjoyed playing at this club which is the perfect place for this kind of music. Good to catch up after the show, having some items signed, taking photos, sharing memories and swapping news. Hope to see this fantastic band again before too long.

Andy Fairweather Low & The Low Riders played the Quasimodo Berlin which is almost at my doorstep. It was their last German gig before returning to the UK and their very first gig in Berlin. I wasn't 100% ok yet  but the great music set me up.

Apart from his well-known standards, Andy did some fine instrumentals and kept the audience entertained by telling bits and pieces from his long career. Towards the end of the first set he faced some problems with his wah-wah, however, being pro's the band switched straight into some Lonnie Donegan tunes on acoustic guitar which went down a storm! According to the cheers I took that there were many Lonnie Donegan fans in the audience. Very pleased that they did even "Good night Irene" which is one of my all-time favourites.

It got really hot in there and one guy fainted which caused a brief interruption. This was quickly sorted and they carried on until it was time for the encores. An absolute highlight was ROUTE 66 played by Andy note by note in "Keith Richards style" causing huge applause. I was great to have a brief word with them later and wishing them a safe journey. Hope to see the band again before too long.

ERIC CLAPTON at BALOISE SESSION

Eric Clapton headlined the final two evenings of the Baloise Session, an annual indoor music festival in Basel, Switzerland on 13 and 14 November 2013. The concerts took place in the Event Halle, Messe Basel.

EC's band consisted of:
Chris Stainton, Dave Bronze, Henry Spinetti, Andy Fairweather Low, Paul Carrack, Michelle John and Sharon White.

Bill Wyman - along with the rest of the Rhythm Kings - have been travelling across the UK and Europe for a series of specials, concerts and gigs. June has seen Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings perform to fans from places such as The Old Battersea Power Station, Monaco and then across Spain.

Early June saw Bill heading to the Ritz Studios in Putney to rehearse with the Rhythm Kings, including Andy Fairweather Low, drummer Paul Beavis and Madeline Bell. The rehearsal was to prepare for Gabrielle's Charity Gala, held on June 7 at The Old Battersea Power Station. Bill says he really enjoyed the performance of the Noisettes, who appeared on stage before Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, who headed onto the stage at 10pm.

Bill says the line-up included Paul Beavis (drums), Bill Wyman (bass/vocal), Georgie Fame (organ/vocal), Andy Fairweather Low and Terry Taylor (guitars/vocals), Geraint Watkins (piano/vocal), Madeline Bell (vocal), Frank Mead and Nick Payn (horns).

The band played to a great crowd, who enjoyed a fantastic set, including I Got A Woman (Georgie), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Sweet Soul Music (Madeline), Route 66 (Andy), Too Late (Terry), You Never Can Tell (Bill), I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight (Andy), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), I’ll Be Satisfied (Madeline), Sugar Babe (Frank) and Honky Tonk Woman (Bill). With fans calling for more, Madeline provided a rousing encore of Dancing In The Street.

With the successful gig concluded, Bill packed for touring Monaco and Spain - drummer James Powell joined for the concerts - then Bill headed by Eurostar to Monaco.
First stop, a corporate TV event at the Sporting Club, Monaco, on June 14. Before the gig - which started at 11:30pm - Bill caught up with Prince Albert, before taking to the stage for a set lasting just over an hour. The crowd loved it, with the band performing Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Jump Jive & Wail (Albert), Too Late (Terry), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), You Never Can Tell (Bill), It’s Raining (Geraint), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), Sugar Babe (Frank), That’s Rock & Roll (Albert), This Is a Man’s World (Beverley), Race With The Devil (Terry), Hey Joe (Louis Bertignac), and Honky Tonk Women (Bill). To applause and cheering, Beverley sung Dancing In The Street as an encore.

From Monaco to Spain on June 15, with the band travelling to Barcelona for a gig on June 16 at the Gaz de Luz Club. Bill says the audience was fabulous, loving every song the band performed. Following a set of I Got A Woman (Georgie), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Sweet Soul Music (Madeline), Too Late (Terry), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), You Never Can Tell (Bill), It’s Raining (Geraint), I Just Wanna Make Love To You (Madeline), Just Your Fool (Frank), Jump Jive & Wail (Georgie), 300 Pounds OF Joy (Geraint), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), I’ll Be Satisfied (Madeline), Sugar Babe (Frank), Just For A Thrill (Georgie), and Honky Tonk Women (Bill).

The audience couldn't get enough, so Madeline sung two encores - I Put A Spell On You and Dancing In The Street. Bill says the applause was riotous, and continued for a full ten minutes after the band had left the stage. After the gig, Bill spent time signing autographs and posing for photos for fans.

From Barcelona to Bilbao on June 17, with news of the Rhythm Kings arriving sparking a crowd of fans queuing early at the Sala BBK venue to grab an autograph from Bill. The audience were great, Bill says, with the audience standing and dancing in the aisles and on the balconies.

A smaller, more intimate gig was scheduled for June 19 at the Palacio de Congresos in La Coruna. And while the audience was smaller, Bill says the tighter space created a fantastic, up-close atmosphere. The concert - which had a similar set list to the previous two - was a success, with the audience abandoning their seats to dance in the aisles and give a standing ovation at the close.

Lively: New CD from Andy Fairweather Low & The Low Riders

Andy Fairweather Low & The Low Riders - who opened for Eric Clapton on all of his May / June 2011 dates - have released a new CD: Lively. Mixed by band member Dave Bronze, it features R&B, gospel, country and blues all of the tracks highlight the guitar players and songs that influenced Andy when he was growing up. The tracks were recorded at last year's gigs. The other Low Riders are Paul Beavis and Nick Pentelow.


There's a special guest appearance from Chris Stainton on two tracks "Lay My Burden Down / Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and "Worried Man Blues". Of course, Andy, Dave and Chris are all familiar to Clapton fans from their respective tenures in EC's touring and recording bands.


Andy first came to prominence as the lead vocalist / guitarist for Amen Corner in the sixties. In the following decade, he had a string of solo hits. Over the course of his career, he’s also toured and recorded with Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and many others.
