The Astor Theatre is another place I like, 2nd time for me there. The route to Deal was quite an adventure, picked my car up at Victoria Station and it took me forever to get out of London in thick traffic. Found my way to the coast, good driving on a sunny day and I was rewarded with a nice cosy hotel next to the beach.

The show was fantastic, Albert looked great and everyone was in a good mood. "Real Wild Child" was breathtaking. Pete Wingfield did a couple of songs and some instrumentals in his very own style - I enjoyed it very much, and of course, Pete, everyone remembered Radio Luxembourg!

Peter Baron did "Wake up screaming" but didn't do "Country comfort" despite requests by some people in the audience. Albert joked "He has some discomfort ...". As Christmas was around the corner, Gerry played some chords of "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" and "Jingle Bells" right in the middle of "Country Boy" which was great fun.

Can't tell which song I liked best as they were all so fantastic. Nice chats after the show also with Pete W who told me that he had played in Italy during the summer with a blues band which was great fun. After wishing everyone a Happy Christmas it was time to say good-bye.

As it was a sunny day I took a stroll on the pier next morning before heading towards the airport. A great way to finish up the year, no more gigs until January next year.

Noch ein Gig ohne Fotos. Der Troubadour ist ein Klub im Kellergeschoss unter dem gleichnamigen Pub und neben dem dazugehörigen Delikatessenladen. Von meinem Quartier am Earl's Court ist er bequem zu Fuß zu erreichen. Der Pub ist sehr urig eingerichtet und gemütlich. Unten sieht es schon anders aus, es ist alles sehr eng, man kommt kaum vor die (winzige) Bühne, die meisten Plätze sind Stehplätze und es gibt nur wenige Sitzplätze an kleinen Tischen, von denen aus man sowieso nichts sehen kann.

Nichtsdestotrotz war der Gig phantastisch Am nächsten Tag gab es dann noch den allerletzten Gig im Jahre 2005 in Deal, Kent, bevor ich mich auf den Heimweg machte. Es sollte nicht das letzte Mal im Troubadour sein, aber zum Glück spielte die Band dort nicht mehr allzu oft.

Mike Sanchez Xmas Party, Buriton Village Hall - 10 Dec 2005

'Our Mike' .... is not only a fantastic entertainer but also a good friend. If you have the chance to see him play, go and have a good time as this man never disappoints.

I added Ange's photos from the Christmas Party December 2005. Ange said: "Another Music Fix for last weekend Albert Lee on Friday and Mike Sanchez on Saturday. Met up with Jilly too on the Friday, we all had a great time over the weekend. Back to normal now ;)  "

We were early and bumped into Mike who was kind enough to ask us in for the warm-up as it was bitterly cold. Nice to meet up with Caroline (and mother April) from Basingstoke as well as Marleen and Tony. Mike played his 'happy music' and the guests were dancing and enjoying this lovely party. All of us danced like mad and our aching feet said 'Thank you' next day. Thumbs up for Mike who did the entire show despite of his bad cold, Also a big 'Thank You' to him for addressing me in the audience and dedicating the Fats Domino tune 'I'm ready' to me!

Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes, Boom Boom Club Sutton - 09 Dec 2005

One of the last gigs in 2005 ..... and it was the night prior to Mike Sanchez' Christmas Party at Buriton. My first visit to the Boom Boom Club run by the lovely host Pete Feenstra who is booking top acts in the Greater London area. Met up with Jilly, Ange and Steve and all of us enjoyed a fantastic gig in a great atmosphere. Pete Wingfield was still on keyboards, and we didn't know then that it was the last time for him to play the Boom Boom Club - he would leave the band for good in summer 2006. Albert switched to mandolin for one song, the lovely tune from the movie "Oh brother where art thou?" which became one of my favourite songs in the set. Big thanks to Ange and Jilly for letting me have some of their photos (all in a Flickr album, click on the above picture).

Yes, Gudrun, each one of the band brilliant! Albert's solos wonderful ... 'Tear It Up', 'Country Boy' - just for starters!!! And some favourites of mine 'Two More Bottles Of Wine', 'Don't', and 'Sleepless Nights'.
Jeff Beck comes from Wallington, his family home was near to where I went to school, and i think his sister went to the same school as i did (but a few years before me). He moved to Sutton about the same time I did, and i often saw him driving wonderful American cars along the High Street (now pedestrianised!) I got to hear that there was a brilliant guitarist who lived locally and played in The Tridents... and have followed his career ! I think he went to Wimbledon Art School.
Likewise Eric, who came from Ripley, Surrey, and went to Kingston Art School. I first saw Eric - and Tom McGuiness - in The Roosters before Eric joined the Yardbirds, and have followed his career too ... he now lives not too far from me.
I went to Ealing School of Art and Design at the same time as Freddie Mercury, but I was in the photographic side of the Art School. Pete Townsend also went to Ealing as did Ronnie Wood ... but they were there a few years before me.
It was an exciting and vibrant time to be a teenager, going to gigs for very little money and hearing musicians who have since become very famous ....happy days !!! Hope you have recovered from your journey."
