On the road in Ireland, 2009 - 2014. The album contains some pics from
Jerpoint Abbey (near Thomastown), Ireland - a quick stop at the ruins of this Cistercian
Abbey in County Kilkenny, unfortunately most of it was closed. The
carved cloister arcade was not accessible due to reconstruction works.
"Discover Ireland" says:
'The
abbey was built around 1160 by the King of Ossory, Donal
MacGillapatrick, for the Benedictine monks. In 1180 it was taken over by
Cistercian monks from Baltinglass Abbey. The Cistercian order was
founded in 1098 in Citeaux. In 1228 there were 36 monks and 50 brothers
in the abbey.'

Great to pay another visit to the beautiful Pavilion Theatre which is located close to the pier. The weather left to be desired, rain and strong winds, so no stroll on the seafront this time !
The gig was well attended, the setlist remained unchanged, sadly, they didn't play my request ONE WAY RIDER despite of rehearsing as Doña and Chris told me later. They had also planned to play some different songs which were not on the list but there wasn't enough time to rehearse. Anyway, another fantastic show, a great audience and huge applause for every band
member.
It was nice to see familiar faces in the crowd, Carol was there again and also Gavin Povey and wife who were just back from their France holidays. Great to have a word with Gavin who looked suntanned and was in good spirits. Gerry Hogan was much in demand for chats and photos as there were some members of the Irish Steel Guitar Association around who added 3 photos to their Facebook site and said "Albert Lee - the fastest guitar player in the world and Gerry Hogan (Hogans Heroes)." If
someone is interested: The 2015 Irish Steel Guitar Festival will take
place on the weekend of 17th and 18th October at the Green Isle Hotel,
Newland's Cross, Dublin. Details will be posted on the Irish Steel Festival's
FB site in due course.
This was the last gig of the bands' Irish leg of the tour. They crossed over to Wales on Sunday, while I had some time left for sightseeing. A bit sad to say bye-bye to green Ireland with its beautiful landscapes, friendly people und great hospitality!

Just a few words:
Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes were just brilliant! I had lovely neighbours and we enjoyed the
gig to the full. Enjoyed a Bavarian beer during the break and chatted to fellow fans. My personal favourite of the night was definitely Rodney's SONG FOR THE LIFE, also HIGHWAYMAN was outstanding.

A long way from Dublin to Ennis in County Clare. My first time at The Glór which turned out to be a nice place with comfortable seats, a friendly staff and - last but not least - a well assorted bar.
Just a few words about the gig: Nice to meet Barbara Hogan there, who had some good advice ready about sightseeing in the neighbourhood. Also nice to catch up with Sue and Carol. Unfortunately photos were not allowed but after the break I managed to switch over to the side gallery where I was able to take some quick snaps.
As expected, the band were brilliant, Doña went down a storm, and Gerry had fun playing his usual jingles in the middle of Country Boy, among them a few chords from 'It's a long way to Tipperary' which caused some laughter. Standing ovations at the end, and long queues at the boys' signing table.

Die Musikwelt verabschiedet sich von einer weiteren Blues-Legende: B.B. King ist im Alter von 89 Jahren am 14. Mai 2015 in Las Vegas verstorben. Er befand sich nach kurzem Krankenhausaufenthalt zuletzt in häuslicher Hospizpflege.
Geboren wurde Riley B. King am 16. September
1925 bei Indianola, Mississippi. Wie seine ganze Familie arbeitete er
als Baumwollpflücker auf einer Plantage. Schon als Kind sang er im
Gospelchor, lernte Gitarre spielen und trat 16-jährig als Straßen
Musiker auf. Vier Jahre später ging er nach Memphis, wo er ein Jahr lang
mit seinem Cousin Bukka White (1906–1977), einem Blues-Musiker von
Rang, das Zimmer teilte; dann musste er jedoch zunächat auf die Farm zurückkehren, um seine Schulden abzuarbeiten.
Mit nichts als seinem Talent und einem eisernen Willen ausgestattet,
schaffte er den Weg von der Plantage in Mississippi ins
Millionärsviertel von Las Vegas.
King veröffentlichte zeit seines Lebens 75 Alben und wurde mit 14 Grammys ausgezeichnet. Zu seinem erfolgreichsten Songs gehörten: "Every Day I Have The Blues",
"When Love Comes To Town"
und "The Thrill Is Gone".
Im Blues und Rock beeinflusste er unzählige Musiker, darunter auch Eric Clapton.
Seine unsterbliche Musik wird uns bleiben.

Back to beautiful Cumbria after quite a while. The weather left to be desired, heavy rain and strong winds which would result in another cold for me ....
This event should take place at the Rosehill Theatre Moresby, a little jewel where the band had been regulars over the years, but was moved to a place close-by, the Cleator Moor Civic Hall another nice theatre with a friendly staff and - not to forget - moderate bar prices!
No empty seat was left, and even at this remote place I spotted familiar faces in the crowd. The band were brilliant as always, and I'm glad to say that HIGHWAYMAN was back to the set, excellently done by Albert on piano. The boys finished to huge applause, I only wish they had skipped TEAR IT UP at the end for another song.
Later I bought an instrumental CD 'SLAVES TO THE WAVES', produced by Chris Palmer,
recorded under the band name 'The Surfsuckers', released in 2003 with happy music to relax. On drums Peter Baron, Chris Palmer on bass, git, key, sax,
and Jim Duncombe on guitar. Jimmy Duncombe, an excellent guitar player in his own right who had supported Albert and the boys at Swiss gigs, was the leader of Sixties band Jimmy & The Rackets where Pete and Chris were former members. We had some fun and chats after the show, and both were kind enough to sign the album for me.
