Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes in Turtmann, Switzerland - 29 May 2010

Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes in Turtmann, Switzerland - 29 May 2010
The concert was organized by MusicRanch.ch on the occasion of the 800 years celebrations at the borough of Turtmann.
MusicRanch are arranging lots of special events in the Oberwallis area and attract a variety of artists e.g. The Bellamy Brothers, Linda Gail Lewis, Mungo Jerry - just to name a few -, also various Irish folkbands, lots of coverbands and many more.
Entering Turtmann, there were huge signs to promote the 800 years celebrations and also the Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes Gig! The gig took place in a multi-purpose hall which didn't create a good atmosphere. The poorly arranged seating didn't help, either, so I decided to stand up at the side. There was a huge space between stage and audience which was obviously meant to be a dance floor but nobody made use of it. The set was pretty much the same as on the night before, but audience and ambiance of the Muehle Hunziken gig could not be topped.

Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes at Mühle Hunziken, Rubigen (CH) - 28 May 2010

Muehle Hunziken is a well-known concert venue in Rubigen, Switzerland, close to Berne. Albert and the boys played there on 28 May 2010, first time for Gavin at this venue.

My brief review:

Band:
Albert Lee, git, voc, key
Gerry Hogan, steel guitar, git
Peter Baron, drums, voc
Brian Hodgson, bass, backgr voc

Peter Burkhart, AKA «Muehli-Pesche» the owner, a queer fellow but a lovely guy announced the band. Peter re-built the old mill on his own with a love of detail. It was his birthday that night, and the band plus audience sang him a heartfelt HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ! He was difficult to understand speaking Berne German but what I got from his speech is that he bought himself a pair of new shoes especially for this day! Albert and the boys started with  "YOUR BOYS ... are in town tonight" and we could enjoy Gerry playing an identical acoustic guitar to Albert's - a JPE Linville. He used it later again on "YOU'RE ONLY LONELY", a nice change to the set. Thundering applause at the end of the show, everybody had a great time!  It was good to see Roland and Joel again. Last not least, the busy road crew deserves a mention, putting the gear together in no time.

Gavin Povey, key, voc

Melle is a small city in Lower Saxony, Germany. The small venue KULTURWERKSTATT features a variety of events and artists, among them Andy Fairweather-Low, Peter Greene, painters and others and -  last not last - Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes who played there for the 2nd time. The show was as good as usual and attracted -  apart from "the usual suspects" even some notables - as theatre and TV actor Thomas Bestvater from Berlin and friend who were in the neighbourhood and being huge fans came to see the band. Great fun after show when Thomas asked me to have his photo taken with Albert and vice versa he took one of me and Albert - both came out not too bad.
The gig was over too soon but no reason to cry as there were a lot more in the pipeline this year.

A sunny day in spring. The venue was in walking distance, and I enjoyed the sunshine as long as possible. Catching up with Peter and Sue in the cafe next door until it was time for the gig. It wasn't a sell-out this time, but a good crowd, and I spotted some familiar faces. Nice to catch up with fellow fans but as expected there were also some real 'weirdoes' around.

The support was done by a local band called RUDY & HIS FASCINATORS who did some great blues tunes and then it was time for Hogan's Heroes. It was difficult to get some reasonable photos due to the reddish lighting. My positon was good for the piano songs, so at least some nice shots of Albert. Just bits to see of Brian standing far behind. Same goes for Peter, who was totally hidden behind Albert's piano. Not much else to say, the band were brilliant as usual and went off to great applause. Long queues at Sue's merchandise table and at the boys' signing table later, they had lots of CDs to sign, shake hands or just swap a few words with their fans.

My 2nd visit to this venue, which was not sold out this time. A great night with the band in top form and a crowd in good mood ! The show started early as they was a disco later. I stood front row on Gavin's side, enough space to move and take some reasonable shots. Could watch his excellent piano work from where I stood which was a pleasure. His elegant style made it all look so easy. Despite of the strange lighting almost all my photos came out well. Apart from Peter Baron who was hidden behind his drumkit, I was able to ban everybody on a photo ... A new song was added to the set: THE WORLD IS WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE with Gavin on vocals. LET IT BE ME, the great Everly tune caused extra applause due to the many Dutch Everly fans.

Next morning - leaving Den Haag ....... on a sunny morning in May. I couldn't wait leaving that more than strange hotel behind with its steep stairs like chicken ladders and other weird things! Due to an irritating one-way system, it took me quite a while to get out of town.

Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes played Hessle Town Hall on 16 May 2010. Sarah and I went to see them and had a good time. The gig was organised by Beverley Arts Trust and again a complete sell-out.
Nice to meet Richard at the venue. I included his photos which he kindly shares with us, thank you so much ! Richard says: "Photos taken from back of the hall so quality is not good. Farino the support band are a local Hull band and were excellent." Thanks for the Farino photos and also for that one of Peter Baron who was difficult to ban on a photo this time hidden in the background ....

After the show, the band patiently signed all kinds of stuff, the usual long queues at their table. I was happy to get some earlier photos signed by the boys. Also, Albert personalised my obscure "Bullfrog" CD which is hard to find - I was lucky to win an ebay auction.

A comment by Richard:

"I enjoyed the gig and especially some of the new songs. Gavin was a worthy successor to Elio - a tough act to follow and I am sure his role in the band will grow. The hall was packed and the atmosphere excellent. The Halls acoustics were very good."

Local singer/songwriter Jill Jackson opened for the Heroes and did a nice set of songs. She is a huge Albert fan herself but - to be honest - I wasn't too impressed by her performance and didn't pay much attention.

This is the 3rd year that Albert and the band play Mickleton, and as every year they sold the place out!
Sarah and I were the first ones to queue as you have to be on time at this club with unallocated seats. It was great to meet up with Beryl and the lovely Darlington bunch - and as usual we had a great time. Mickleton gigs always turn into a huge party, and this one was no exception.

Ravenshead Village Hall transforms into The Stetson usually every 2nd Friday in the month with doors at 7-30 and the show at 8-15 unless otherwise stated. You can find the hall on Vernon Crescent, Ravenshead between Nottingham & Mansfield.

I had always good times at The Stetson thanks to Geoff and the lovely Stetson people who made me feel welcome anytime. Albert & the boys played there in 2008 for the first time and came back every year. These photos are from the gig on 14 May 2010 - needless to say a complete sell-out as usual and the band were awesome.

Also thanks to the other band members who were so kind as to sign us various photos, CDs and other stuff and took their time for a little natter after show which we enjoyed very much.
