788 Years Of Rock 'n' Roll (2012) - Vince Eager
1950s British Rock 'n' Roll original Vince Eager presents his new album, featuring a host of guest rockers including Marty Wilde, Chas Hodges, Albert Lee and others.
Eager rose to stardom in the late 50s with release on the Decca, Parlophone and Top Rank labels, going on to become a favourite on national TV shows like Jack Good's Oh Boy! and Drumbeat.
Vince and his all-star line-up of rockin' legends sound great today, and this album will be a welcome release for his fans and collectors of Great British Rock 'n' Roll.

 

30 Jan 2010:
ONE of the earliest entries in Pete Clemons’s 50-year rock diary is January 28, 1960, when American stars Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent joined Britain’s Vince Eager in a rock ‘n’ roll package assembled by impresario Larry Parnes. Their show at the old Gaumont was part of a trail-blazing tour that ended in tragedy as Cochran, who had established himself with hits like Summetime Blues, C’mon Everybody and Somethin’ Else, was killed in a car crash in Chippenham on April 17.
January 30: a special anniversary concert just over the road from the original venue at the SQ Club, in Whitefriars Street. Vince Eager performed along others as stated on the poster.
 

2i's Coffee Bar, Reunion #3 - 19th April 2009
Famous 2i's coffee bar, cradle of so many musicians, celebrates Reunion #3 at 100Club London on. "Rockin' at the TV Hop" - 3rd Annual 2I's Celebration. Buddy Britten, Ray Duvale, Vince Eager, Wee Willie Harris, Russ Sainty 2I’s no3 band: Dick Middleton (lead guitar), Brian 'Licorice' Locking (bass), Clem Cattini (drums), Chas McDevitt, Mark Goodwin, Hylda Sims, John Pilgrim, Simon Prager, Kevin Stenson, Pete Stanley.

2 I's Reunion Gig # 1 

In 1958, the Vagabonds (Brian 'Liquorice' Locking on bass, Roy Clark on guitar and vocals, Mick Fretwell on washboard and drums and Roy Taylor (later Vince Eager) on guitar and lead vocal) entered the grandly-named World Skiffle Championships which saw them reach the televised final on BBC Television's "Come Dancing". A disappointing second place did not deter the boys and they were offered a residency at the famous 2 I's Coffee Bar in London's West End. It was not long before they were booked by pop Svengali Larry Parnes, manager of Tommy Steele and Marty Wilde, for a Sunday concert in Coventry. According to common consent, Vince was the star of the show! Photos by Shanghai Fred who was lucky to attend, thanks for letting me use.

met up after 45 years. I saw Vince Eager also on a Hogan's Heroes gig in summer 2008 at The Stetson, Ravenshead, when he came to see the band. Albert dedicated one song to him.

Chas Hodges Memorial Concert, Shepherd's Bush Empire - 17 Dec 2018

An evening of music and entertainment in memory of Chas Hodges.

A show to remember with lots of music greats bidding farewell to Chas Hodges on 17 December 2018. The venue was packed with people who sang along and enjoyed the show to the full. The performers were all outstanding and created an incredible atmosphere. Lucky me, I had a seat upstairs which offered a great view down to the stage - the ground level was full to the limit.

Lots of familiar faces inside and outside the venue and so much fun. It was great to catch up with Claire and Zeena, also nice to see Sue Hargreaves, Jane Craxton and her brother who kindly helped me finding the right queue, Jeremy and Sharon, Dave and Karen and my lovely neighbours on the gallery. Queuing at the door had to follow  a certain order which was somewhat complicated to say the very least, it also took plenty of time but the excellent performance made up for all the effort.

The icing on the cake for me was seeing Albert, Dave & Wayne play alongside Eric Clapton but also great to see other guitar heroes e.g. Martin Taylor MBE and Richard Smith. I don't remember how many encores were given - the crowd cried out for more and the performers were only too happy to add yet another song.  Chas & Dave's warhorse 'Ain't no pleasing you' finally closed the show and everybody joined in.

Yes, I was there last night! Couldn’t see anything from the stalls, it was dangerously packed, never known Shep’s Bush Empire as full as it was in all the times i’ve been there. But the atmosphere was brilliant, & everyone singing along to Ain’t No Pleasing You... I think Chas had a good time last night too 😊 Oh, did I mention Eric Clapton was there?

Gig No 1 on 25 September 2015
Met up with Clawdy on the first night, nice to see her again despite some obstacles on my tube ride! The support group Palmerston were a nice surprise, great fun and good 'handmade' music! We met them later having some fun and a photo with them at the entrance - a bunch of talented guys and so funny!
Cindy Cashdollar was a huge surprise - amazing on steel guitar, lap steel, dobro and vocals and she definitely went down a storm. Also a friendly, very down-to-earth person and a pleasure to talk to. She told me that she had been in Germany some years back at the TV Station SWR Baden-Baden appearing at the popular music show 'Ohne Filter' where she had met Albert for the first time. I do remember the Rhythm Kings performance at 'Ohne Filter' well, their show was recorded and there was a DVD out later.

Special guest Ralph McTell was a fantastic addition to the show with a great singing voice. He, Albert and Cindy performed one or two songs together which were just brilliant. Then Albert switched over to his acoustic guitar performing some songs from his latest Album 'Highwayman', my absolute favourite was '18 Yellow Roses' which he dedicated to his four daughters. Not much to say about the band - well, they are not Hogan's Heroes ... and it was rather strange to see Albert play with them but thanks to good company and lovely people around, Clawdy and I had a good time and made the best of it. Lots of familar faces in the audience and later in the foyer Elliott Randall was there with friends as was Jane Craxton, Jim Cowan (Albert's US manager) Pauline and Rod Brown, Carol and Tony, Laura, and of course nice to see Sue Hargreaves again. Special thanks to Albert, Cindy and Ralph McTell for chats and their patience having lots of photos taken !

Gig No 2 on 26 September 2015
After an exciting afternoon in Greenwich, I met up with Karen Edlin at Cadogan Hall. It turned out that we had almost the same seats as the night before. The set list was pretty much the same and again, Albert's acoustic set was my favourite part of the show. It was nice to meet so many fellow fans as well as old and new friends, among them the 'usual suspects' Pauline and Rod, Carol and Tony, Karen & Dave, and also some people from Germany. Great to meet Jeremy and Sharon for the first time! So lovely to see Wayne Lee and family, also Brian Hodgson, ex bass player with Hogan's Heroes who was looking well and telling us about the planned tour in spring 2016 with his new band SOMETHIN' ELSE which features the fantastic Bobby Cochran on lead guitar. Can't wait for the tour which will bring them also over to Germany. After some drinks and chats in the bar it was time to say bye-bye to everybody, and Karen and I headed towards the station catching the last tube.
