Die Rhumequelle bei Rhumspringe (Rhume Spring - source of the River Rhume)

Kleiner Abstecher ins Harzvorland - dieser Ort ist immer einen Besuch wert, besonders an heißen Tagen.
Die Rhumequelle ist eine der größten Quellen Europas und liegt zwischen Herzberg und Duderstadt in der Nähe der Ortschaft Rhumspringe. Jede Sekunde fließen zwischen.900 und 5.500 Liter Quellwasser in die Rhume. Neben der Hauptquelle gibt es noch etwa 360 weitere Nebenquellen. Außerdem gibt es um die Quelle herum eine vielfältige Vogelwelt, ebenso Quellwasser-Forellen. Die Färbung des Wassers variiert nach Jahreszeiten; im Winter sieht es türkisfarben aus wie im letzten Foto aufgenommen, im Sommer grün-bläulich. Es ranken sich zahlreiche Sagen und Geschichten um die Quelle.

A recent visit to the Rhume Spring. The main spring has blue-green colouration and looks even better in spring- and summertime.  It's a large karst spring not far from the village of Rhumspringe in the Harz mountains of Germany. Lots of hiking trails around the source, bird life and even trouts in the spring water.

Ansichten aus dem Eichsfeld

Das Eichsfeld ist eine historische Landschaft im südöstlichen Niedersachsen, im nordwestlichen Thüringen und im nordöstlichen Hessen zwischen Harz und Werra. Die größten Orte des Eichsfelds sind die Städte Dingelstädt, Duderstadt, Heiligenstadt und Leinefelde-Worbis sowie der Flecken Gieboldehausen. Früher lag das Eichsfeld abgelegen im Grenzbereich zur ehemaligen DDR, heute liegt das Eichsfeld fast in der Mitte Deutschlands. Das Fotoalbum auf FlickR beinhaltet Bilder aus

Fachwerkstaft Duderstadt im südöstlichen Niedersachsen.
Duderstadt ist eine kleine Stadt auf der niedersächsischen Seite des Eichsfeldes. Ich kenne den Ort noch aus meiner Schulzeit, damals durch seine extreme Lage im Grenzgebiet nach Thüringen war es ein verschlafenes Städtchen, wo so gut wie gar nichts los war. Duderstadt hat durch die Wende sicherlich gewonnen; es gibt viele attraktive Geschäfte auf der Marktstrasse, nette Cafés, und Einkaufszentren außerhalb der Stadt ziehen Kunden aus den ländlichen Gegenden im angrenzenden Thüringen an , und die historischen Fachwerkhäuser in der Innenstadt sind sehenswert.
Nicht weit hinter der Stadt befindet sich eine Museumsanlage, die den Verlauf der Grenze zur ehemaligen DDR noch im Original aufzeigt. Ein großes Stück ist erhalten geblieben mit Stacheldraht, Wachtürmen, Todesstreifen usw. Man muss allerdings gut zu Fuß sein, um diesen Abschnitt abzulaufen.

Alternativer Bärenpark Worbis.
Der Bärenpark liegt in Leinefelde-Worbis im thüringischen Teil des Eichsfeldes. Neben Bären gibt es dort auch Wölfe und andere Tierarten. Im Bärenpark Worbis können die Tiere annähernd spüren, wie sich ein Leben in Freiheit anfühlt, denn ihre Gebiete sind großzügig angelegt.
Der Park ist nicht leicht zu finden, jedoch sehr schön im Wald gelegen. Man kann dort einen interessanten Tag verleben, es gibt ein kleines Café und einen Andenkenladen mit moderaten Preisen; auch der Eintritt ist relativ niedrig.

Albert & Band were brilliant, a sold-out gig and a great crowd at this small venue as always . Sadly, this was my last gig on the tour, now back home to scorching hot Berlin.

Herzberg am Harz und Umgebung

Herzberg am Harz und Umgebung
Besuche zu verschiedenen Zeiten.

Herzberg ist ein kleines verschlafenes Städtchen am Harz. In den Wintermonaten ist dort so gut wie überhaupt nichts los. Die Innenstadt besteht zumeist aus schönen Fachwerkhäusern und wenig attraktiven Geschäften, meistens sind es Billigläden und die üblichen Discounter sowie ein Kino. Der Juessee ist im Sommer jedoch einen Besuch wert und das Welfenschloss oben auf dem Berg über der Stadt ist äußerst sehenswert. Der Stadt mangelt es nicht am Autoverkehr, die zu Stoßzeiten viel befahrene Durchgangsstraße führt auf die B27 nach Göttingen, des weiteren führt die B243 auf ausgebauter Strecke in die Kurorte des Südharzes und weiter in das ehemalige Grenzgebiet.

Das Welfenschloss Herzberg ist ein noch vorhandenes Schloss des ehemaligen Landkreises Osterode am Harz, Niedersachsen. Teile des Schlosses dienen heute als Amtsgericht, ferner gibt es ein Restaurant und ein Museum. Und: im Welfenschloss Herzberg befindet sich eine Außenstelle des Standesamtes Osterode für standesamtliche Trauungen, die im sogenannten Rittersaal stattfinden.

Marktkirche zum Heiligen Geist
Die ausschließlich aus Holz errichtete Marktkirche in Clausthal ist die größte Holzkirche Deutschlands und ein Kunstwerk von nationaler Bedeutung. Im Zentrum des historischen Marktplatzes beeindruckt sie vor allem durch ihre Größe und Gestalt. Jedes Jahr kommen viele Harzgäste zu einer Besichtigung der imposanten Marktkirche nach Clausthal.  Der Eintritt ist frei, es wird jedoch um eine kleine Spende in Höhe von 1€ gebeten, die zur Instandhaltung der Kirche und der Kunstschätze verwendet wird.

Sunday night at Kulturwerkstatt Melle-Buer, Lower Saxony. The venue is known for its excellent sound, friendly staff and moderate bar prices. When you get a seat on the balcony you have a perfect view for photos. Another fantastic gig by Albert & Band - great crowd, relaxed atmosphere  - a perfect way to finish the weekend !

Blues Garage Isernhagen - one of my favourite venues in the Hanover area. You always feel welcome there, lovely staff, nice ambiance, drinks and little snacks at reasonable rates. After Henry spoke some welcoming words, Albert & Band went straight to business. Needless to mention that they went down a storm. Another brilliant gig in a great atmosphere. They went off to huge applause by an enthusiastic crowd.

Sanierung der Terrassen am Zoo

Im Februar 2015 begannen die Bauarbeiten für die Modernisierung im Berliner Bahnhof Zoo. Die über 100 Meter lange Restaurant-Etage mit ihrer Freiluft-Terrasse soll zukünftig wieder dem historischen Vorbild gleichen, daher wurde das erste Obergeschoss komplett entkernt und zurückgebaut.

Am 09. November 2016 eröffnete die Fastfoodkette McDonald's ein neues Restaurant in den modernisierten Zooterrassen.
Für Unterhaltung sorgen Tablet-PCs mit Internetzugang und sogenannte Magic Tables, die interaktive Spiele direkt auf den Tisch projizieren.

Mc Donald's am Zoo ist rund um die Uhr geöffnet und hat Tischservice mit ca 90 Mitarbeitern. Das früher gegenüber liegende McDonald's Restaurant ist inzwischen geschlossen.
Bin neulich kurz dort gewesen, habe mich aber nicht lange aufgehalten.

Gigs at Ochsen Sinzheim are hard to beat!
The fabulous Doña Oxford and her amazing band created a terrific atmosphere at Landgasthof Ochsen Sinzheim. People danced away to the happy music and wouldn't let them go .... two encores given !! Doña still suffered from her sore throat but nevertheless went down a storm. Great to see Thorsten Schmitz ('Big T') and wife again and we both agreed that another trip to Sinzheim was definitely worth the effort. Hutch Snyder & Moni, Jill and Andy, Kati & hubby from Ellwangen and the usual regulars from the Baden-Baden area showed up and enjoyed the good home cooked food and the happy music in a great atmosphere. My last gig for a little while, next morning a long drive homeward was waiting for me but no reason to cry - I had a fantastic time on the road. Looking forward to seeing Doña and Band again in August !

Thorsten Schmitz (Big T Music) ist ein Freund aus dem Frankfurter Raum, den ich durch Casey Molch AKA Manfred Peter bei einem Albert Lee Konzert in Sinzheim kennengelernt habe, ein weiterer gemeinsamer Freund ist Hutch (Johnny) Schneider aus Baden-Baden.
Thorsten ist Alleinunterhalter, Musiker, Entertainer, Keyboarder, Sänger mit über 800 Titeln (alle Songtexte aus dem Kopf)- darunter Oldies, Boogie-Woogie, Country und R&B sowie auch Schlager.

Er tritt sowohl solo, als Big T & The Boogie Boys oder auch mit Casey Molch als 'Big T &  The Nashville Gentlemen. Thorsten Schmitz,(Keyboard) Casey Molch (Guitar) , Dietmar Waechtler (Pedal Steel ) und last but not least Wolfgang Lieberwirth am Kontrabass.


Thorstens Jubiläums-CD ist wirklich hörenswert und bietet etwas für jedermanns Geschmack. Kontaktdaten siehe linkes Bild.

In fact, the band played three gigs in a row but I made it only to two gigs due to clashing dates with Dona Oxford's tour and you simply can't be everywhere. Great to be at the Rattlesnake Saloon again after I missed out last year, thanks for the warm welcome by Gaby, Bruno and Isabell as always. Nice to catch up with Nuremberg friends Harald, Sigrid, Sonja & hubby on the first night. The place was packed to the limit and the gigs were hot in every respect - I felt like being in a sauna and decided to move back to the bar area after a while where the view wasn't too fantastic but at least I was able to breathe! The set list was identical on both nights. Thumbs up for Albert & Band and their great performance despite the unbearable heat. They left the stage totally soaked but to huge applause and standing ovations.

Doña Oxford and Band opened the beer garden season in style at John & Rita's place in Obing, Bavaria. It was an open air gig, not in the ballroom as usual but outside behind the main building in the beautiful beer garden. John offered a BBQ at reasonable prices, long tables were laid out and it could have been just awesome if the weather was a bit better. Getting really chilly later but Rita looked after the guests distributing blankets to make everybody feel comfortable. The bands' hot music made up for the chilly weather and eventually people got to their feet dancing and enjoying themselves. Great hospitality and a friendly welcome as always by John & Rita, thanks so much, hope to visit again before too long. Last but not least, thumbs up for Doña who - being a pro - gave everything despite her sore throat!  Great show and here's to the next one a few days later.

Gig No 1 - 09 May 2017

Albert Lee returned to Ochsen Sinzheim.
As always there, it was sort of a family thing. Great to meet up with longtime friends as the Burgmaier family, Hutch Snyder and wife Moni, Brigitte, Peter & Friend from Baden-Baden, Jill Morris, Andy Forstmann, photographer Wolfgang Bauer (who took lots of photos for the Ochsen gallery) and many others who always turn up at Albert's shows. After having enjoyed the delicious home-made buffet plus some tasty wine a real treat was waiting for us by Albert and his Band. It was the first time for Jon, Will and Ollie at the Ochsen and they were all cordially welcomed in the usual 'Burgmaier' style which needs no further explanation. Needless to say that they went down a storm, smiling faces all over the place and towards the end everyone jumped to their feet and danced away.  The band went off to frenetic applause. Here's to gig No 2 next day !

Gig No 2 - 10 May 2017
Wednesday night at the Ochsen. Even more familiar faces and musician friends around, it was great to see Casey Molch AKA Manfred Peter from Frankfurt who is a musician in his own right as is entertainer Thorsten Schmitz - great to meet him, he would show up again at Dona Oxford's gig a few days later. Mareike and Andy Eckhardt and friend turned up as well and many others, you know who you are. My photos were similar to those from the night before so I posted just a few on Flickr. Casey took tons of photos, thanks for sending in and sharing with us. It turned all into a great party, so much fun during and after the show with like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere. As a bonus, the band added one extra song for the happy dancers which was "Two Step Too".  Special thanks to the lovely Ochsen team, you deserve a gold medal.

Beat in Baden-Baden posted a new video  and gave some comments:
"ALBERT LEE, der zweifache Grammy Preisträger, hat mit vielen der besten Künstler der Musikbranche gearbeitet, wie z.B. Glen Campbell, Dave Edmunds, Joan Armatrading, Joe Cocker oder Linda Ronstadt, um nur einige zu nennen. November 2002 trat er mit anderen Weltklasse-Künstlern in der Royal Albert Hall beim "Concert for George" auf, eine Hommage an den Beatle George Harrison. 2007, 2010 und 2013 gastierte Albert bei Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festivals in Chicago. 2015 spielte er in London im Rahmen der Jerry Lee Lewis 80. Geburtstags-Konzerte. Immer spielte er vor Tausenden von Zuschauern.

Not much to add from my part. It was great to spend two amazing nights at the Half Moon enjoying a nice dinner beforehand in the company of lovely people as Pauline and Rod Brown, the Trevers, Karen & Dave which set us up for the gigs.

More familiar faces could be spotted e.g. James Beck, Jane Craxton, Carol Blackman, Wayne Lee, Doña Oxford, Terry Taylor (Rhythm Kings) who looked relaxed and well, great to catch up! Also with Tony Panico (Tour Manager Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings) and others who had also been to Brian Hodgson's farewell gig including Brian himself and his lovely brother-in-law Bill and not to forget Sue Hargreaves whom I hadn't seen since the Scottish gigs in March.

As stated above, the band were brilliant. A slight change in the line-up: Jon Greathouse was on keys and background vocals instead of J.T Thomas and he did a great job! Wayne Lee was as lovely as always and let me know beforehand that he would be playing some UK gigs with his Dad in June, the dates have been published meanwhile and tickets are on sale. Also he and Doña joined in for the encore on the second night which caused massive applause.

Now looking forward to Albert & His Band as well as Doña and Band - both coming over to the continent before too long!
