Radio MEMORYHITS

My Swiss friend Ulle Bayer (also a musician in his own right) - runs this radio programme, together with Radioman Jens Bohn. They are all huge Shadow Fans, hence the name 'SHADOWMANIA ALL OVER THE WORLD' - however they are also playing other 50th/60th/70th stuff. I would like to recommend their Memoryhits which are broadcast on Sundays. Their next programme is a Christmas Special on 15th December, details below.

Taste of Licorice in Warnham

BRIAN ‘Licorice’ Locking, formerly of The Shadows, popped into Warnham’s Greets Inn this week for an evening meal.

Duncan Entwistle, proprietor of the Friday Street pub, couldn’t believe his eyes when Brian walked in.
“He is apparently considering moving to this delightful part of West Sussex,” said Duncan, “and said he was amazed by the Thai style chicken curry with courgette, baby spinach, dragon fruit and paw paw served with turmeric rice - one of the best pub meals he has eaten, which is a smashing compliment.”
Brian played bass guitar with The Shadows for 18 months from April 1962, when he replaced Jet Harris.

Shadows-Bassist gestorben

London – Jet Harris, Gründungsmitglied und Bassist der britischen Instrumentalgruppe The Shadows, ist im Alter von 71 Jahren an Krebs gestorben.
Das teilte sein Agent Peter Stockton mit. Harris spielte bei vielen Hits der Shadows mit, darunter „Apache”. Die Shadows waren zudem Begleitband von Cliff Richard, der Harris mit den Worten würdigte: „Jet, der Bassist, wird immer ein wesentlicher Teil der britischen Rock'n'Roll-Geschichte sein. Ihn zu verlieren, ist traurig - aber großartige Erinnerungen bleiben. Rock on, Jet.” Harris spielte - damals noch unter dem Namen Cliff Richard and the Drifters - 1958 bei Richards dritter Single „Livin' Lovin' Doll” Bass.

Der Bassist der 60er-Jahre-Instrumentalband The Shadows ist tot. Terence „Jet“ Harris starb gestern im Alter von 71 Jahren im südenglischen Winchester an Krebs.

In den 1950er Jahren war Harris einer der Pioniere der elektrischen Bassgitarre. Mit den Shadows machte er den Instrumentalsong „Apache“ zum Hit, der bis heute bekannt ist - und vor allem im Hip-Hop immer wieder als Sample verwendet wird. Die Gruppe war außerdem die Begleitband des englischen Popstars Cliff Richard, mit dem sie unter anderem den Hit „Living Doll“ aufnahm.
Nach den Erfolgen der Shadows war der in Nordlondon geborene Musiker auch mit Soloprojekten aktiv. Nach der Musikkarriere arbeitete er als Fotograf. Seinen Spitznamen „Jet“ bekam er, weil er so schnell laufen konnte. Harris starb im Haus seiner Partnerin Janet Hemingway. Er war vor zwei Jahren an Krebs erkrankt.
