Wenn sich einer auskennt, dann er: Mit seiner BBC-Show ›Later... with Jools Holland‹ hat der TV Star, Pianist und Bandleader Jools Holland die kultigste Musikshow Europas am Start. Von Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran und Adele bis Bono, Pearl Jam oder BB King hat er sie alle in seiner Show gehabt. Er gilt als definitiv Bester seines Fachs und erhielt im Juni 2003 von Queen Elizabeth II den ›Order of the British Empire‹ für seine besonderen Verdienste um die britische Musikindustrie.

Im September 2011 veröffentlichte Jools Holland eine Compilation speziell für den deutschsprachigen Markt, die in bester ›Later...with Jools Holland‹-Tradition eine ganze Reihe von Top-Acts präsentierte, darunter Eric Clapton, Sting, David Gilmour, Nick Cave, Tom Jones und viele weitere internationale Größen. Doch Jools Holland wartete überdies mit einer sensationellen Überraschung auf, denn auf dem Album waren zum ersten Mal auch Künstler aus Deutschland mit dabei: Roger Cicero, Ina Müller, The Baseballs, Axel & Torsten Zwingenberger gehörten dazu. Herbert Grönemeyer war gleich mit zwei Songs vertreten, darunter eine wunderbare Version von Randy Newmans ›Marie‹.

Kurzer Kommentar von mir:
Dem ist eigentlich nichts hinzuzufügen. Jools Holland spielte zum zweiten Mal im Columbia Theater Berlin, gleich neben dem ehemaligen Flughafen Tempelhof. Special guest war die unvergleichliche Ruby Turner, die eine Hammer-Version von 'Piece in the Valley' ablieferte - Gänsehaut pur. Der Saal tobte zum Schluss und jedermann tanzte Boogie in den Gängen und wo auch immer Platz war.
Hervorzuheben wäre noch Anna Brooks am Saxophon, grandios, und dann sang sie auch noch einige Lieder, eine gelungene Überraschung und unbedingt eine Bereicherung. Bitte mehr davon.

Hoffen wir, dass Jools auch nächstes Jahr wieder den Weg zu uns findet !

What can brighten up a dark and wet day ? A good gig! Jools Holland played at Columbia Theater Berlin which is almost at my doorstep. Jools Holland and Marc Almond (Soft Cell)  joined forces and recorded an album 'A Lovely Life To Live' which was released last November followed by a tour in the UK, Ireland and the European continent.  Marc Amond („Tainted Love“) was one of the highlights but for me but also the excellent Ruby Turner nailed it down.

What a great night, fantastic atmosphere and at the end everybody jumped to their feet and boogied away. Great applause, and after several encores they finished up with 'Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think' .

Still in my mind is the excellent Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra show I saw some years back with my friend Jilly at the Old Royal Naval College Greenwich (a superb venue) where Albert Lee, Alison Moyet and many otheres were guesting.

But also tonight's 6-piece band was most entertaining and we hope to see them again before too long.

My brief comment:
Jilly and I went to this very special event and had a great time enjoying the picnic, fantastic music with great artists and the relaxed atmosphere on a warm summer night. And to top it all - no rain!! Lots of photos taken, I wasn't aware that I took so many and have just put the best ones on.  I didn't write a review as I don't remember most of the songs, maybe Jilly recalls some more details. But I'm sure we will find some videos on YouTube sooner or later as there were many cameras around.

The legendary ‘country boy’, Albert Lee, will join his old friend and fellow local lad Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra at the inaugural Greenwich Summer Sessions on Friday 23rd July 2010. Albert will perform a number of songs alongside Jools when he takes to the stage set to the backdrop of the stunning Old Royal Naval College.

The Legendary Albert Lee famous for his fast melodic guitar picking and his emotive singing is joining the South London born and bread Jools Holland. Household name Albert Lee has been in the public eye since the early 60’s having played along side the likes of Eric Clapton and many more.

Now a touring member of Hogan’s Heroes, Lee is very much still on the scene, never failing to surprise and impress his listeners. Albert Lee will be performing in front of thousands of fans at Greenwich Festivals: Summer Sessions taking place at the picturesque Old Royal Naval College from 21st – 25th July (excluding 24th).

Greenwich Summer Sessions is part of the Greenwich Festivals that are taking place over the next two years in the run up to the 2012 cultural and sporting Olympiads. Featuring a four day music extravaganza, the 23rd see’s Jools Holland host an evening with guests and friends from past and present, backed by his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

Lee, who grew up in Greenwich and nearby Kidbrooke, is impressively in his 50th year of touring, he has received five Grammy nominations taking home two of those awards, the most recent in 2009. Lee began his career playing with Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds playing stax-type material, later joining Heads Hands & Feet becoming a guitar hero in many fans eyes. After working with Deep Purple’s keyboard player Jon Lord Lee was flooded with offers to play along side some of Rock ‘n’ Rolls most famous stars, which he continues to do to this day.

Greenwich Festivals: Summer Sessions also features Seth Lakeman, The Levellers, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Athlete, I Am Kloot, Tape The Radio, Sunday Girl, The Carl Picton Cartel and The Invisible. Being the only festival on a UNESCO world heritage site Greenwich Summer Sessions not only offers phenomenally music but also a stunning historic setting for the entire family to enjoy.
