Dave Greenslade R.I.P. †

Dave Greenslade (* 18.

I'm so very sad to read about Dave's passing, thanks for the info by Clem Clempson. Dave was a true gentleman, always ready for a chat after the Colosseum gigs in Berlin swapping news and memories from the old days e.g. from the time with Chris Farlowe's Thunderbirds and much more.
Will miss him, may he rest in peace

COLOSSEUM, Kesselhaus Berlin - 18 March 2026

COLOSSEUM "Out Into The Fields" Tour 2026:

Wednesday night at Kesselhaus Berlin. This brilliant band has always had a loyal following over here and it was a real treat to see them again after a long winter. They were in the mood to play and the spark jumped over right from the very first note. The setlist contained old and new songs - thanks to Clem keeping us updated from time to time. Glad to see that the ever young Chris Farlowe was as fit as a fiddle and in good spirits. The song "Ain't gonna moan no more" written by Van Morrison was a fine edition to the set. Chris told us that he had played with Van in the UK recently and the song was left to him to play with the band.

What a powerful performance, this band never disappoints. Thanks to all, have a successful tour and safe travels .

COLOSSEUM, Berlin, Kesselhaus in der Kulturbrauerei - 12 May 2025

COLOSSEUM stands for high profile jazz, rock and blues and always have been very popular in Germany. Last night they delivered a fantastic performance at the packed Kesselhaus Berlin where I had seen them several times also in various formations. Needless to say that the band were excellent, I can't mention anyone in particular as they were all so brilliant. Very pleased to see Chris Farlowe in great shape whose voice was as powerful as always and of course his jokes kept us entertained all evening.
Also those who are no longer with us as Barbara Thompson and Jon Hiseman got a friendly mention - they will never be forgotten.
A real treat on a Monday night with good music, fun and friends!

COLOSSEUM “The Return Of A Legend”, Kesselhaus Berlin - 17 Sep 2023

COLOSSEUM, Kesselhaus Berlin - 17 Sep 2023

COLOSSEUM, Kesselhaus Berlin - 17 Sep 2023

So great to see this high-profile band again on a Sunday night at the packed Kesselhaus after a long time. The line-up has changed a bit for obvious reasons, good to see Nick Steed and Kim Nishikawara whom I had seen earlier with the Norman Beaker Band. Needless to say that the band were excellent, I can't mention anyone in particular as they were all so brilliant. Pleased to see Chris Farlowe in great shape whose voice was as powerful as always. What a great Sunday night - thank you and have a great time on your long tour.

Hamburg Blues Band w/Chris Farlowe, KAP Torgau - 24 July 2021

Hamburg Blues Band w/Chris Farlowe, KAP Torgau - 24 July 2021Open-Air at Kulturbastion Torgau

Line-up:

Gert Lange (voc, git)

Reggie Worthy (b),
Krissy Matthews (git)

Eddie Filipp (dr)
Guest:
Chris Farlowe

What can be better than a hot summer night with great live music? The Hamburg Blues Band featuring the ever young Chris Farlowe played Torgau against an historical backdrop. The place was rather busy - but everyone was following the Corona rules keeping their distance (y). The band had to give 2 encores, they closed the show with OUT OF TIME and everybody sang along full blast.
Thanks to the band and to Chris, who's never out of time neither out of tune - great to see you all again after such a difficult time bringing back a bit of normality.

Support was done by Franky Dickens Band from Leipzig
"Bluesrock, Soul, Rhythm & Blues, gegründet 2008 als L.E. Boogie Band. Der Name steht für einen abgefahrenen BluesRock mit Funky - & Soulgrooves.  Ihre Songs sind clever gemacht und haben durch verschiedene musikalische Einflüsse eine ganz speziell - frische Handschrift. Manchmal ist aber auch ein wenig Voodoo im Spiel wenn sie ihrer begeisternden Spielfreude freien Lauf lassen."

Band Members:
Thomas Steinert: git, voc, keyb
Frank Taeubert: b, voc

788 Years Of Rock 'n' Roll (2012) - Vince Eager
1950s British Rock 'n' Roll original Vince Eager presents his new album, featuring a host of guest rockers including Marty Wilde, Chas Hodges, Albert Lee and others.
Eager rose to stardom in the late 50s with release on the Decca, Parlophone and Top Rank labels, going on to become a favourite on national TV shows like Jack Good's Oh Boy! and Drumbeat.
Vince and his all-star line-up of rockin' legends sound great today, and this album will be a welcome release for his fans and collectors of Great British Rock 'n' Roll.

30 Jan 2010:
ONE of the earliest entries in Pete Clemons’s 50-year rock diary is January 28, 1960, when American stars Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent joined Britain’s Vince Eager in a rock ‘n’ roll package assembled by impresario Larry Parnes. Their show at the old Gaumont was part of a trail-blazing tour that ended in tragedy as Cochran, who had established himself with hits like Summetime Blues, C’mon Everybody and Somethin’ Else, was killed in a car crash in Chippenham on April 17.
January 30: a special anniversary concert just over the road from the original venue at the SQ Club, in Whitefriars Street. Vince Eager performed along others as stated on the poster.

Vince Eager @ 100Club London, January 2007,
2 I's Reunion Gig # 1

In 1958, the Vagabonds (Brian 'Liquorice' Locking on bass, Roy Clark on guitar and vocals, Mick Fretwell on washboard and drums and Roy Taylor (later Vince Eager) on guitar and lead vocal) entered the grandly-named World Skiffle Championships which saw them reach the televised final on BBC Television's "Come Dancing". A disappointing second place did not deter the boys and they were offered a residency at the famous 2 I's Coffee Bar in London's West End. It was not long before they were booked by pop Svengali Larry Parnes, manager of Tommy Steele and Marty Wilde, for a Sunday concert in Coventry. According to common consent, Vince was the star of the show! Photos by Shanghai Fred who was lucky to attend, thanks for letting me use.

Vince Eager and Albert Lee, 2007,
met up after 45 years. I saw Vince Eager also on a Hogan's Heroes gig in summer 2008 at The Stetson, Ravenshead, when he came to see the band. Albert dedicated one song to him.

Jon Hiseman - Bad News !!

Latest News / JCM Heroes Tour:

26.04.2018, 10:20 Uhr:

Update by Colin Richardson
(Jon Hiseman's COLOSSEUM & JCM - Fan Page):
Update: Just spoke with Jon, who sounded exactly the same as he always does! He sends his thanks for all the warm and supportive comments from you, which he really appreciates.
So far, he has been put on a course of steroids prior to the operation in approx 2 weeks. Post-op there will be 12 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy. He's in good spirits and preparing for what will no doubt be a tough journey ahead. I know you will all keep him in your thoughts. Colin R

2 x Chris Farlowe and Norman Beaker Band - Sep / Oct 2016

Chris Farlowe and Norman Beaker Band, Objekt 5 Halle - 15 Sep 2016

Objekt 5 Halle - 15 Sep 2016

Line-up:
Norman Beaker, git,voc
John Price, bass, voc
Steve Gibson, drums
Nick Steed, keyboards
Tony Kelly, sax
Chris Farlowe, voc

Great gig at Halle and nice to catch up with Birgit, Gunnar and daughter. We had a fantastic night with Chris and the fabulous Norman Beaker Band, special mention goes to excellent sax player Tony Kelly. The place was packed and really hot - in every respect, partly thanks to this year's the September heatwave all over Germany. Nice to have some words with the band later and also to lovely Chris Farlowe who came over to shake hands and say Hello. Thank you all for an awesome show.

Chris Farlowe & Norman Beaker Band at Quasimodo Berlin - 02 Oct 2016Quasimodo Berlin - 02 Oct 2016

Another promising night at Quasimodo with Jutta and Babs. Also great to see Birgit, Gunnar & friends again. It will take some time to get used to Quasimodo's new concept but it will certainly fall into place sooner or later. Not too many photos taken due to a packed house and tall people in front of us. Despite all obstacles, a great show with these excellent musicians. See you soon again in our neck of the woods with Larry Garner at Kulturgießerei Schöneiche.

One more Christmas - Pete Lincoln and Friends

Message from Pete Lincoln:
"ONE MORE CHRISTMAS" - Pete Lincoln & Friends - for PARKINSON'S UK
I've recorded this song with my old mate Brian Hodgson and a bunch of friends with proceeds going to Parkinson's UK.
It's available now from Amazon by clicking the link below, and on iTunes (links below).
Also available on Google Play and most online music stores."

Please help by sharing and downloading, it's for a good cause. Thank you.
PS
When you buy the track from iTunes, remember to leave a 5star review.

Contributions to the track include:

Gavin Povey - Piano
Gerry Hogan  (AlbertLeeand HogansHeroes) - Pedal Steel Guitar
Alex Reeves - Drums
Bobby Cochran - Baritone Guitar
Brian Hodgson - Bass Guitar
Gayle Fraser - Backing Vocals
Steve Mann - Mixing & Mastering
Pete Lincoln - Lead Vocals & Guitar

A Christmas song just like they used to be. All of the classic ingredients evoking that warm glow of Christmases past and the innocent spirit of a bygone era.

The song was penned by Englishman, Brian Hodgson, American Bobby Cochran and Swede, Micke Finell. These guys are all steeped in the history of Rock ’n’ Roll; Brian has a pedigree as long as your arm, having been a member of the 80s Rockabilly Rebels Matchbox as well as being a founder member of Albert Lee & Hogan’s Heroes. A successful Record Producer with countless songs and albums to his credit, he has worked with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Dave Edmunds, Shakin' Stevens, Peter Sarstedt, Lonnie Donegan, Van Morrison, Sonny Curtis, Neil Innes, was a member of the original Rutles band and has even won Eurovision as a songwriter.

Bobby’s uncle was the late great Eddie Cochran of course, and Bobby has carried on in his footsteps having worked with such musical luminaries as Steppenwolf, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Leon Russell, as well as his own band Bobby And The Midnites.

Lastly, Micke is one of the stalwarts of the Swedish Rock ’n’ Roll scene, having been a member of The Refreshments and currently writing and producing for many of the top native acts.

Sadly, Brian has recently been afflicted with Parkinson’s. This has seen him having to restructure his life to some extent and curtail some of his live work. However, not one to allow anything to hold him back in life, he recently performed at his enormously successful testimonial gig with Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes and a multitude of stellar guests including Marty Wilde, Chas & Dave, Chris Farlowe, Mike Berry, Neil Innes, Elliott Randall, Pete Lincoln, Graham Fenton, Jona Lewie and John Halsey.

Parkinson’s UK therefore is a charity very close to his heart, and he got together with another of his longstanding writing partners, Pete Lincoln, to record One More Christmas with a view to donating the profits from the song. Pete also has a long musical pedigree and is currently touring the world and recording as frontman for The Sweet, as well as writing and recording solo projects.

As Eric Clapton has famously said, Albert Lee is the world's greatest guitarist. Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds

Older photos:
Albert: "In May 1964, I joined Chris Farlowe and I stayed with him 4 years. I thought it was a great band - the best in Britain at what we did... but we never got much in the way of recognition or public acclaim. It was very frustrating; we'd support bands like The Animals, who were terribly ragged in comparison, with very little feeling or finesse - and they'd go down a storm while we got a smattering of applause from the few punters who weren't in the bar. I've got tapes of some of our gigs and they still stand up - some of our stuff was killer! Farlowe was a dynamite singer! But there was practically no crowd reaction. We worked solidly for years ... tours, one nighters, all nighters, doubles, trips to Germany and Scandinavia - we went all over the place, but we never cracked it beyond a certain level."

Line up:
Chris Farlowe - vocals
(born John Henry Deighton, October 13th 1940, Essex)
Albert Lee - guitar
Dave Greenslade/Pete Solley - keyboards
Rick Charmon/Bugs Waddel - bass
Jerry Temple - congas
Johnny Wise/Ian Hague/Carl Palmer - drums

(photo left: Thunderbirds 1965)

"By the end of '67, Farlowe had decided to revamp the band - so it was him backed by a trio, with Pete Solley (aka Pete Shelley & Pete Sheridan) playing bass pedals as well as the usual stuff on his organ...but by this time I was getting a bit bored with R&B and the way the rock scene was going. Everyone was into huge Marshall stacks and maximum power, and that sort of thing held no appeal for me."
