The Rhythm Kings UK and Beverley Skeete - Gigs & Latest News

"Rhythm Kings UK" can refer to one of several bands, most notably
Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, a blues-rock group founded by the former Rolling Stones bassist
.

Photo gs (2014)
The Rhythm Kings feat. Beverley Skeete + Otis Redding III - Stay Tuned for New Dates

In 1996 a group of musicians were assembled to form a supergroup. Musicians involved in this project were numerous and included many household names. Players such as Peter Frampton, Graham Broad ,Gary Brooker, Geraint Watkins ,Andy Fairweather-Low, Mike Sanchez, Georgie Fame, Frank Mead ,Martin Taylor, Nick Payn , Albert lee and Chris Stainton. The one female addition was Beverley Skeete. Thus the Rhythm Kings were born.

Over the years the line-up changed and special guests included Dennis Locorriere ( the voice of Dr Hook) Eddie Floyd, Mary Wilson, and Gary U.S Bonds. Even soul legends like Solomon Burke, Ben. E. King, Percy Sledge and Sam Moore were party to the 'Rhythm Kings' Magic.
After many years of touring members went their separate ways .but with the success of Beverley's solo project she managed to convince some of the original key players to join her in reforming a smaller version of the band in order to resume touring again. After a few sold out shows it was evident that there is still a market for excellence such as the Rhythm Kings.

PLEASE HELP TO SPREAD THE WORD AND SHARE THE DATES. THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF TERRY TAYLOR !!

Martin Taylor & Giovanni Weiss "Gypsy Hearts" Tour Germany - 18 May 2025

Martin Taylor
and Giovanni Weiss are currently doing their "Gypsy Hearts" tour in Germany and stopped off at Jazzclub A-Trane Berlin last night. First time for me at this well-maintained club, a lovely staff made everyone most welcome and the audience was excellent and well-informed. Definitely not my last visit there.

The two guitar players were brilliant and time passed in a flash. The set included a blend of traditional jazz pieces inspired by Django Reinhardt, along with modern interpretations and original compositions. We all know Martin from his time with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, I very well remember his and Albert Lee's famous "two men on one guitar act" which is something you can't buy. Last time I saw Martin was at the Chas Hodges Memorial, Shepherd's Bush Empire in 2018. Hadn't seen Giovanni Weiss so far but he's definitely worth being checked out. Bill Petry on trumpet was advertised as special guest, Jan Kaiser on flugelhorn joined later and you could see how much they all enjoyed playing together. A great Sunday night with excellent music in nice company.

Line-Up:
Martin Taylor, git
Giovanni Weiss, git
Bill Petry, trumpet
Jan Kaiser, flugelhorn

Mary Wilson, Gründungsmitglied der Supremes verstorben

Mary Wilson, Gründungsmitglied der Supremes am 8. Februar 2021 verstorben

Unter ihren bekanntesten Hits waren Klassiker wie "Where Did Our Love Go" oder "Stop! In The Name Of Love".

Last Rhythm Kings gig of their 2014 Euro Tour took place in Leuven near Brussels. It just so happened that Claire and I were invited by Terry Taylor to come along for the soundcheck and spend the afternoon with the band at the venue. Nice to meet other fellow fans there e.g. Ans who is a fantastic photographer in her own right, Pauline and Sandra with her little baby girl. Sandra & friend took tons of excellent backstage photos which she put up in special FB albums.
Rhythm Kings and their special guest Mary Wilson delivered a brilliant performance as usual, towards the end they said bye-bye to crew boss Dave South who would retire after this tour. As it was Beverley's birthday, Tony brought a birthday cake along (see video on Youtube).

Thanks to Bill, Terry, the other band members and Tony for food,  chats, fun, and not to forget the drinks after the show at the bar. I couldn't think of a better way to finish the tour!

The bands' only German gig on this tour. Not much to say from my part, it goes without saying that they delivered another outstanding performance. I preferred to stand on the gallery rather than being crammed in the crowd downstairs. Nice company up there and a lot of fun. I swapped the latest news with fellow fans and could also take a handful of different photos from bird's eye view. Right after the show, Bill and Mary made their fans happy by signing lots of items from the stage.
Rhythm Kings carried on to Scandinavia next day where they performed a string of gigs. Looking forward to seeing them at their final gig on the continent in December.

Markant Uden - 01 Nov 2014
Great to see the band again after a long time. The venue was quite ok apart from a terrible sound system and glaring spotlights which made taking photos difficult. The band, however, made the most of it and were brilliant as usual. Henry Spinetti did a great job sitting in for Graham Broad who was ill and unable to tour. As Bill told the audience, Henry had to learn all the stuff in two days time, thunmbs up! Beverley, Terry and Mary made their fans happy coming out and sign for them in the interval and after the show. It was nice to see many friends again, also nice to have a few words with crew boss Dave South. The setlist is included in the photo album, just click on the Albert photo to get there.

Parkstad Limburg Theater Heerlen - 02 Nov 2014
Back to Heerlen in South Limburg. Bill and his fabulous Rhythm Kings played a great show at Parkstad Limburg Theaters Heerlen.  Same setlist as last night, just Geraint Watkins surprised us all: instead of telling his funny stories he did an impromptu version of Cilla Black's "Anyone who had a heart" which left Bill and the others speechless ... Nice to meet up with Claire who came all the way from Bristol/UK to see the band play. She could only make it to the 2nd half of the show due to late trains but we had a good time watching the band from the balcony and enjoying a nice drink at the bar. After the show I saw her back to the tour bus where the band offered her a lift back to Amsterdam. Next gig should take place in Eindhoven and we arranged to meet up again.

Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven - 03 Nov 2014
Another great gig after a lovely afternoon spent in Eindhoven with Claire having some food before the show started. My 3rd visit to this venue located in the pedestrianised zone of Eindhoven. This time sound and lighting were perfect, no changes to the setlist. Unfortunately the venue wasn't sold out and could have been busier. Great to meet up with friends and music buddies and have some drinks at the bar. During the interval I changed my seat and sat next to Claire some rows back which turned out to be a good idea as there was space to get up and dance.
Fantastic to hear those outstanding Elvis gospels done by the 'Million Dollar quartet' during the break and after the show, they fitted in perfectly. I had a few words with the DJ who turned out to be well-informed.
Later it was time to say bye-bye to Bill, Frank and other band members as well as Claire, as I had a long drive ahead
next day.

Comments / Reviews / Photos:

  • Excellent video from Saturday by our friends from Stetson Ravenshead, they say "A few brief snatches of the Saturday concert".
  • Another video, published by r4ndym4n who said "Some clips from the concert where Albert Lee is joined by many special guests, including Country Boy."   Click here.
  • Shakin Stevens:
"Albert Lee played on my first album with CBS, and also toured with me in the early years - so it was great to be there for Albert's Anniversary last weekend, and to perform with so many talented musicians.
Alongside Albert, I also shared the stage with Andy Fairweather Low and The Low Riders.Andy's and my paths have crossed through the years, and to perform with him is a memorable experience.
I hope our paths cross, often."
  • Lisa Davies:
As Eric Clapton has famously said, Albert Lee is the world's greatest guitarist. Well, with that there is no doubt and I can also confirm he is the most humble, modest, kind and sweetest man you could ever wish to meet. It's been the greatest privilege and pleasure working with him and his lovely family for his London birthday celebration concerts at the weekend, not forgetting the rest of the team too!
  • Jim Cowan:
    "
Night one of the UK version of Albert's 70th birthday celebration couldn't be better." [shortened]
