Albert Lee Guitar Clinic in Richmond, VA (USA)

Guitars Plus and Ernie Ball Music Man presented free Albert Lee Guitar Seminars end of July 05. One of these seminars took place in Richmond VA. Michael (great Emmylou fan and an internet buddy) was there and was so kind to give a review for us.

"Albert Lee in Richmond"
A good choice to have - Lyle Lovett at our outdoor Innsbrook office park show or a free Albert Lee guitar clinic at The Canal Club tonight. The Emmylou family tree has some incredible branches; given the stormy forcast here, I'm going with Albert. Michael

Good choice Michael and thanks for the comments!!

"RE: Albert Lee in Richmond"

Albert gave us five tunes and a personal history wrapped around the birth of Brit rock. Check out ernieball.com to see the Albert Lee model. Closed with "Country Boy", backing track by the Hot Band with Ricky Skaggs on fiddle. I remember dancing to this one with Jackie, in front of the bandstand at a roadhouse in Waldorf , Maryland; a very hot Hot Band show.

Lonnie Donegan and his skiffle music were it as far as English guitar influences when he got his first guitar . (Check out After The Ball by Ian Whitcomb, a small paperback that takes you into the world our British musical giants grew up in.) Imported guitars from U.S.weren't allowed - luxury goods were embargoed - until about 1960 ; Les Paul Custom, Fender Strat and he came to U.S. with Head, Hands & Feet. Joe Cocker, Don Everly, asked to take James Burton's place in Emmy's band when Elvis was going on tour . Planned to see some shows, sit in, and work in to it but Burton got the flu so he jumped right in.

What a band. The weepers and the rockers were always right on. I love Buddy's work because the playing is ALWAYS better than it needs to be and you get the full measure of what a guitar can do . That's what Albert delivered. See him with The Everly Brothers if the planned tour comes your way, or with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. His English group, Hogan's Heroes, is a Europe-only gig.
