Band:
Albert Lee, git, voc, key
Gerry Hogan, steel guitar, git
Peter Baron, drums, voc
Brian Hodgson, bass, backgr voc
Full house on 24 Feb 2007.
The
Retreat is a small but very nice venue in the middle of nowhere with a
little gallery of famous musicians who played there (including a certain
Mike Sanchez). I was early and given a warm welcome by the landlord.
Enjoyed chatting to Adam and Gerry who came over to say hi. The place
was already packed and everybody enjoyed food or drinks. A Rhythm
Kings video clip was shown on a big screen which people enjoyed while waiting
for the gig to start. This got me into the right mood!
The band were 4-piece only, as Elio couldn't do the gig due to other commitments. Albert had to work hard, guitar on his lap and playing the piano simultaneously! Temps were rising inside, like a sauna. It was difficult to breathe so I decided move to the back where I could get some fresh air but it meant no photos possible. Set list changed a bit as Elio's songs were left out. Peter Baron did "Country Comfort" instead which went down a storm. Brian's voice was still not ok, and I felt sorry for him. No further changes to the set list and a great performance by the boys as usual. Long queues later asking for autographs. Meanwhile I went to have a drink at the bar, where someone - to my surprise - asked me "Are you Gudrun?", it turned out to be Lynn the landlady whom I spoke to on the phone, nice talking to her in person. Later I joined the boys for a chat and some fun and Albert introduced me to a German couple who dropped by and got immediately hooked by the fantastic music. They were from the Stuttgart area and we would meet again at a later gig at the Rattlesnake Saloon in Munich.
