Thelma's Showlounge St Helier, Jersey Gig # 1
Review:
Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes played Thelma's Showlounge in St Helier, Jersey/Channel Islands, on 24+25 April 2010. Also, Albert held a guitar clinic on Sunday afternoon. Despite the long journey with some obstacles at Gatwick, I finally made it to sunny Jersey. I enjoyed a great weekend on the beautiful island full of music, sunshine, new friends and my favourite band and a bit of sightseeing before I left - driving on the narrow roads turned out to be tricky but went ok. The photo album mentioned above is about the first gig on 24 April 2010.
Band:
The band were in great shape. As it was Saturday night, the place sold out completely. The sound, however, left to be desired due to problems with the venue's technical equipment. The low ceilings didn't help much. James and Ben had to work hard and did a great job to get a proper sound together! The technical probs did not prevent the band from having a good time and giving an excellent performance in their very own style. Also the lighting on the first night was a bit strange so my photos without flash didn't come out too well ...
Gavin on keyboards was fantastic, but his piano broke down and again the crew had to work hard to get the problems sorted. The Killer's BREATHLESS done excellently by Albert on piano was a crowd pleaser and people danced front of stage! As the space on stage was limited, Gerry stepped down and played his guitar solo right in front of me. Despite the many obstacles, the band were brilliant and no one left disappointed !
