A Letter from Mark Islam, Grassroots Acoustica Foundation
"Emmylou tribute brings Grassroots Acoustica first $2,000+ event"
Greetings !
Last weekend Grassroots Acoustica raised its largest collection plate offering in its 34 show history: The Boulder To Birmingham Edition - A Tribute To Emmylou brought $2,312 in pledge money for Team JiggyWiggits to walk in Walk MS 2010 benefiting the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society thanks to such Emmylou-signed auction items as posters & a pair of her cowboy boots that now belong to a winning eBay bidder in Virginia Beach, and mostly a capacity Talking Stick audience that donated sizable denominations in appreciation for the musicianship of our local troupe joined by guitarist Albert Lee from Emmylou's Hot Band who just so happened to be visiting Venice before embarking on a 2-month tour of the UK. (We're trying to get him to come back in December for our 4th annual Nicolette Larson commemoration, since he played with her as well.)
Grassroots Acoustica wants to thank Saturday's audience of Emmylou fans that included the executive director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Leon Le Buffe (whose wife, Julina, knew every single lyric), Michael & Gail Gerber of Team JiggyWiggits, all of the astonishing musicians present that night, and most of all to Rique forwalking the walk.
[slightly shortened]
Sincerely,
Mark Islam
