Albert said: "Towards the end of 1962 I joined Don Adam's Band and went to Germany again - in a little A35 van. It was that really cruel winter, and there was no heater in the van. We had to huddle round a little tiny Primus stove in the back ! Bloody hell, we almost froze to death - and almost wrote ourselves off when we turned it over on the ice ! It was the usual thing - pumping out Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran and Little Richard for 6 hours a night, 7 days a week - I was glad to come home again after that one ... but the weird thing was, I flew straight back out there to play with this German band Mike Warner and the Echolettes for 3 months."
Albert: "... Anyway, for some strange reason I quit Neil [Christian] and went back to Germany to play in Mike Warner's band [Anm.G.S.: now "The Fenders"] again, which turned out to be a foolish move - he dumped us and it took me ages to scrape up my fare home..."

Man schrieb das Jahr 1958 und eine Handvoll junger Halbstarker in Bielefeld machten sich auf, es ihren Idolen Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly (nicht zu vergessen Elvis) nachzuahmen. In Deutschland gab es niemanden, den man hätte kopieren können, und so musste man notgedrungen einen eigenen Stil finden. Schon 1960 wurden Mike Warner and The Echolettes Profis, und begannen die deutschen Rock und Twist-Clubs (so hiessen die damals wirklich) zu touren. Bald machten sie sich einen Namen als eine der Top Rock und Twist Band und so wurde man auch in England auf diese Band aufmerksam. 1963 ging Mike dann für eine Zeit nach England und trat als erster deutscher Rocksänger in den Clubs von London auf. Mit seinem guten Freund King Size Taylor, dem Topsänger der Liverpool Szene und Guru der Beatles hat Mike 1965 die Ariola LP "Mike Warner and his New Stars" aufgenommen. Der internationale Durchbruch gelang dann mit den Hits "I walk the line" und "Claudette".
Heute
ist Mike nach 20 Jahren in California und Arizona wieder nach Deutschland zurückgekehrt und hat sich dem Country-Rock Sound verschrieben. Echten Rock'n Roll gibt es aber in seiner Show noch immer, ebenso wie R&B und Blues, Country Blues und natürlich die Hits, mit denen sein Publikum aufgewachsen ist. Seine in Phoenix, Arizona aufgenommene CD "Naked Selzer" mit den Topmusikern der Phoenix Szene und teilweise mit Hilfe von deutschen Rockgiganten wie z.B. Udo Lummer (Kakadu Combo), ebenfalls einem langjährigen musikalischen Gefährten, zeigt Mike unvergleichlich als Deutschlands Antwort auf J.J. Cale. Das im Jahr 2001 erschienene Buch Shakin' All Over nennt Mike als einen von nur zwei deutschen Sängern der Beat-Generation von internationalem Format.

The year was 1958 and a few young teenagers in the city of Bielefeld/Germany decided to imitate their idols Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Ray Charles and Buddy Holly (and let's not forget Elvis). There was no one to copy in Germany, so they had no other choice but to interpret their own style. In 1960 "Mike Warner and the Echolettes" became professionals and began to tour the German Rock and Twist-Clubs (yes, that's what they were actually called back then..). Soon they had made a name for themselves as the Top Rock and Twist-Club band, earning them recognition also in England. In 1963 Mike left for England and appeared as the first German Rocksinger in the clubs of London. Arming himself with a young guitarist by the name of Albert Lee (today a grammy winner and called the world leading country-rock picker) and super-drummer Barry Jenkins (later of Nashville Teens and Animal’s fame) , the three went to Germany to start the best "German" Rockband of their time. The legendary StarClub's all over Germany saw Mike's band the same way all the other top joints of that time, including the US-Clubs for the GIs in southern Germany. Together with his good friend King Size Taylor (top singer of the Liverpool scene and Guru of the famous Beat band "The Beatles") Mike recorded the Kult Album “Mike Warner and His New Stars” on the Ariola label in 1965. His latest album called Naked Selzer shows that Mike can still do it with the best. Featured guitarist on some tracks is no other than Mr. Albert Lee himself... THEN:
NOW:
after 20 years, Mike has returned from California and Arizona to Germany and appears back on stage with great musicians of the legendary German Rock-scene of the 60's plus Liverpool’s guitar legend Barry “Baz” Davies. These days he sings what he still can sing best: R&B, Blues, Country Blues, and of course real good old Rock 'n' Roll. By today the German press calls him the German JJ Cale, which suits him just fine.
